Our endorsements in countywide racesSunday, October 17, 2004 Today the Southtown publishes its endorsements in the Nov. 2 countywide races in Will County and Cook County. WILL COUNTY In the election for Clerk of the Will County Circuit Court, we endorse incumbent Pamela McGuire, a Democrat, who is seeking her third term heading the county court system's record-keeping department. She has performed effectively in the post, reducing the lag time in distributing court revenues to county offices, distributing child support funds more quickly and integrating the functions of five separate computer systems in her office. She's made the office easier to use for the public and for attorneys, both in person and on-line. McGuire is challenged by Republican Cathleen Wiegmann-Doran, a first-time candidate who says she could offer a fresh perspective on the office but has no criticism of McGuire's performance. We recommend McGuire. |

Will County voters are confronted with several difficult choices as they fill administrative offices on Nov. 2. That is especially true in the contests for county executive and state's attorney, the two most visible and politically volatile in the fastest-growing county in Illinois.
Democrat
Pam McGuire for clerk of the Circuit Court, who is running for a third
term. The incumbent has brought many automated improvements to the office, has
worked hard to return unclaimed child support, tightened a number of office
systems. Republican challenger Cathleen Weigmann Doran is an attractive
candidate with a wealth of community service, but without a lot of preparation
for this post.
